Instalirala sam drajvere za HCF chipset sa Slackware portala, sledila sva uputstva, i sada kad uradim Query Modem, Linux ga prepoznaje ali pri pokušaju konektovanja samo stoji “Initialising Modem” i ništa se ne dešava. Šta može biti u pitanju?

Poydrav. Imam slican problem, isto Conexant modem, na Mandrake 9 distoru. Ne mogu da otvorim drugi link koji je boxer postavio, ovaj za patch – http://www.linuxo.org/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=getit&lid=78.

Inače, Linux čita moj modem ovako:

Formal support for Conexant chipset modems are available ONLY through 
http://www.linuxant.com/drivers.  Read Conexant.txt for details.
and Modem/YourSystem.txt for follow through guidance.  Driver speed is limited to
14,400 until a key is purchased.  There is NO freeware alternative.
There are two support package types: hsfmodem  and hcflinmodem.
http://www.lorenzobettini.it/linux/LinuxSonyVaioVGN-S5VP_B reports a
problem and solution in stalling a key, after testing of the free low
speed download.

14f1:1085 could be either a HSF or HCF Conexant modem, because of ambiguous
use of the PCI ID by modem assemblers. First try the hcflinodem package.
If the installation aborts, then use the hsfmodem package. Read Conexant.txt
for details and Modem/YourSystem.txt for follow through guidance.

The hsfmodem package serves a great variety of Conexant chipset modems. 
Start at  http://www.linuxant.com/drivers/hsf for
eventually download of a hsfmodem-SomeVersion.zip  package with
SomeVersion containing your kernel_version 2.4.19-16mdk  in the filename if possible. 
These packages have compiled drivers. Otherwise download the generic 
hsfmodem-Version.tar.gz  package. Its usage will require compiling.

The kernel was compiled with gcc version 3.2 and a compiler is not installed

Kernel-header resources needed for compiling are not manifestly ready!

If compiling is necessary packages must be installed, providing:
    gcc-3.2  kernel-source-2.4.19-16mdk

To enable dialout without Root permission do:
    $ su – root  (not for Ubuntu)
        chmod a+x /usr/sbin/pppd
or under Ubuntu related Linuxes
      chmod a+x /usr/sbin/pppd

Checking settings of:      /etc/ppp/options
lock
noauth
noipdefault
usepeerdns

Don’t worry about the following, it is for the experts
should trouble shooting be necessary.

E sad, ja sam početnica, pa ne razumem ni da li uopšte postoje besplatni drajveri za ovaj modem, jer sam traganjem poslednjih par dana uspela da nadjem samo Linuxant sajt i uputstva za ove drajvere koji se kupuju za 19.95 USD, što mi je nebuloza davati. Samo me zanima da li može da proradi i bez ove kupovine, ondosno da li se mogu naći besplatni drajveri za Conexant modem. Hvala.
